Original Seiko and Kappa Ship Clocks

These vintage, industrial clocks are known for their distinct heritage and design.

On large cargo ships and tankers, individual compartment clocks were wired directly to a “master” clock in the captain’s cabin. This ensured that the hundreds of clocks on board stayed perfectly synchronised as the ship crossed into different time zones.

Kappa clocks were notably manufactured in South Korea under a technical collaboration with Seiko of Japan.

Because these clocks do not work on their own without the original master system, they have been retrofitted for modern use and replaced with a battery-operated, silent quartz mechanism.
